Jeff Patton is very active on CGTalk and his posts about mental ray have often been very useful to me (and to many other people I'm sure) so when receiving the Gnomonology Newsletter I saw a tutorial by him had been added, I had to get it. And I must say, I wasn't disappointed. It's fast paced but easy to follow (and I'm not a native English speaker as you probably already noticed while reading that :) ) and the tutorial doesn't stop when you finish watching the video since you can also check the materials and how they were built.
I hope that's it's only the beginning and that we will see many more tutorials about mental ray by Jeff.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us and please, forgive my bad English, I'm French.

Best $$ I have spent in a while!
No matter what your current skill level is, this video is well worth the price! If you render with Mental Ray, this lesson will definitely increase the quality of the renders you produce. Jeff gives an informative overview of the steps used to create stunning car renders both in a studio enviro, and comped to a photo background. As mentioned the accompanying scenes are a great learning asset on their own, materials, lighting, everything covered in the video is there for you to learn from. Buy this tutorial..... you will not be sorry you did!

Jeff is one of the most knowledgeable Mental Ray artists out there. Being able to examine his lighting and material setups is priceless. Worth way more than $35 in my opinion. You won't be disappointed.

Great job, but one question.
since is clear to me now that i also need a new computer.
I guess you recommend windows 64 instead of 32,
but XP64 or Vista64?
Thanks and i hope to see another of your Tutorials soon.

Jeff Patton

Thanks for the comments.

Tim: You can't access the mrSun (without a script) in 2009. That being said it's no big deal, just us the mrSun in the daylight system. I should have used the daylight system with a mrSun and a skylight instead of a mrSky in this tutorial to avoid the confusion.

Antonio: FWIW, the next PC I build will definitely be a 64bit machine. I'm tired of hitting the RAM limitation in 32bit land. I'll use Vista64 or Windows7 if it's available when I get ready to make that jump.

Hi jeff compliments for this tutorial and for the renderings they are very beautiful, I know enough mental ray and your images they are some of the most beautiful that can be admired in internet
I wanted to ask you if you can suggest me a link whether to find or to buy some beautiful images of backround and enviroment with the technique of the mirro ball that is used in mental ray.
I have modeled an auto and I wanted to insert it in an environment
